Katy Wild West Brew Fest: Great Entertainment and Community Support

By Bryan Carey with Examiner

Katy Wild West Brew Fest 2016 is only three days away. In just 72 hours, more than 125 breweries will descend upon Katy Mills Mall, located at 5000 Katy Mills Circle in the west Houston suburb of Katy, Texas where they will serve more than 500 different malt beverages to the craft beer curious.

The main event is scheduled for Saturday, April 23, 2016 and runs from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Those with VIP tickets gain admission at 3 p.m. VIP and General Admission tickets are still available and can be purchased here. There is also a Launch Party at the same location, scheduled for April 22, 2016 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets for the Launch Party are also available and can obtained through Eventbrite when you purchase your festival tickets for Saturday.

Beer is the main attraction at the Katy Wild West Brew Fest, but there is much more, including a Brewer’s Competition; Live music from five different bands; delicious food; and other assorted fun. Texas Beer Bus has teamed up with the Wild West Brew Fest this year and will offer transportation from three different locations. And since the event is held at the Katy Mills Mall, it’s within walking distance from several hotels. You can purchase a package that includes the festival and hotel through the Eventbrite link.

Beer, entertainment, and convenience are reason enough to attend the Katy Wild West Brew Fest, but there is more. This festival, selected as the Top Beer Festival in the USA by Beeryeti.com, is one of a very small number of festivals in the United States that donates 100 percent of proceeds to local charities and non- profit organizations. You read that correctly. There are NO management fees or payments made to organizers, workers, etc. The Katy Wild West Brew Fest is 100 percent volunteer driven with all money directed to the local community.

Houston has several notable beer festivals each year but few can match what the Katy Wild West Brew Fest brings to the table. The Houston area was hit by heavy rainfall early in the week, but the Katy Wild West Brew Fest and Launch Party will continue as planned. Time is running out, so go to Eventbrite and purchase your tickets today!

Katy Wild West Brew Fest: Let the Countdown Begin!

Katy, Texas is known for many things and one of the newer associations with the Katy area is beer. The reason is because Katy happens to be home to an excellent beer festival- one that was selected by Beeryeti.com as the top beer festival in the USA. I’m talking about the Katy Wild West Brew Fest, held at the Katy Mill’s Mall and scheduled for April 23 with a launch party on Friday, April 22.

Katy’s Wild West Brew Fest is now in its fifth year and it keeps getting better and better. This year’s event is going to feature more than 125 breweries serving more than 500 beers and will also feature live musical entertainment, food, and more. Like with past years, there will be a Brew Off to select the best beer in show plus Best Dressed Volunteer contest, Best Bites competition, and other fun. Wild West Brew Fest has also partnered this year with Texas Beer Bus, helping provide transportation to and from three locations: Woodlands Market Street, Sugar Land Town Square, and Houston Uptown Park.

One other thing that sets the Katy Wild West Brew Fest apart from the competition is the emphasis on charity. The event is organized by the Katy Rotary and charity is the primary reason for the hard work and dedication from the volunteer staff. The Wild West Brew Fest is one of the few events of its kind that donates ALL proceeds to charity! That is correct. No one collects management fees or other financial incentives. Everyone who works here is working as a volunteer, with proceeds from the event going to support local causes.

Tickets to the Katy Wild West Brew Fest are going fast and can be purchased here. There are still a few VIP tickets left which gain a ticket holder entry to a special VIP tent, early admission at 3pm, and exclusive access to beers not available to the rest of the festival. General admission tickets are still available as well, but they are going fast as the big day approaches. It’s an event like no other and myself and the other sponsors/organizers hope you can join us for this amazing afternoon of beer and giving.

Will Work for Beer - WWBF

The 2016 Katy Wild West Brewfest will be held at the Katy Mills mall in Katy, TX – a suburb of Houston. This will be the fifth annual occurrence of this non-profit event, and the first held at Katy Mills mall. According to event organizer David Loesch, the reason for the move was simple: “We outgrew our old space; it simply could not handle our capacity anymore.”

All net proceeds of the event go to both local charities in the Houston-Katy area as well as other charities around the world. A few of the charities represented are: The Rainbow Room, Future Farmers of America, The Shaw Center, along with various disaster relief efforts and fine arts programs locally. The event is fully staffed by volunteers, which means that no one works the event to turn a profit, and 100 percent of the net gross goes back to the community. Not many events can say that.

While showcasing the philanthropic expertise of the WWBF is certainly important, it is still a beer event first and foremost. Over 6,300 people traveled from as far as the Netherlands to enjoy the raucous atmosphere and wide beer selection at the WWBF in 2015, and event organizers are hoping for an even better turnout this year.

The 2015 WWBF featured a whopping 125 breweries pouring over 400 delectable beer selections. Many of the biggest craft breweries in America were featured, such as New Belgium, Boulevard, Ballast Point, SweetWater, Sierra Nevada and Deschutes. Many smaller breweries were given equal footing and there were also cideries and meaderies on hand to offer samples. 2016 promises to bring even more breweries to the WWBF, proffering their finest wares to enthusiastic beer drinkers from around the nation.

The festival officially begins on Friday, April 22 at 7 PM with the WWBF launch party. This event, while technically still part of the WWBF, will feature different musical artists and a different beer lineup. Also, the launch party will be far smaller in scale, allowing for attendees to mingle and talk one-on-one with brewers and brewery reps from many of the most popular breweries in America.

The true exodus begins the next day, April 23rd, at 4 PM (3 PM for VIP admission) when the event opens to the public. For those that don’t want to make the drive to Katy Mills Mall, the “Texas Beer Bus” will pick up throughout the day at various locations around the event. While Uber or a designated driver is always an option, why not hop on a bus with fellow festgoers and perform an out-of-tune version of “99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall” before or after the event? Sounds like a blast to me.

Expanding upon the festival’s 2015 iteration, the 2016 WWBF will feature over 150 breweries bringing over 500 (!) beers for your perusal. “With over 143,000 square feet of beer nirvana, every style you can imagine will be represented,” according to a WWBF press release. The VIP tent alone is over 10,000 square feet and will feature rare and one-off beers that will be made available for this event only.

While all of the major, BA Top 50 breweries will be returning, numerous smaller breweries have already committed to attending the event and bringing some of their finest releases along to titillate the taste buds of attendees. According to Ralph Brock, another event organizer, these breweries will make their fine wares available at the 2016 WWBF: Rahr & Sons Brewing, Lazy Magnolia Brewery, Santa Fe Brewing Co., Live Oak Brewing Co., Lone Pint Brewery and Southern Star Brewing Company. This list is sure to grow as more breweries confirm their attendance.

The fifth annual Wild West Brew Fest is sure to be one of the premier beer events of the year, so hitch up your wagons, head out west and fulfill your manifest beer destiny!

Katy Wild West Brew Fest Announces New Attractions for 2016

The Katy Wild West Brew Fest (WWBF) has expanded from 43,000 square feet in its first 3 years to 143,000 square feet of shear beer nirvana in its 4th year.  “Within this massive space you will find over 150 brewers featuring over 550 craft brews,” said David Loesch event chairman.

This festival will feature various different “zones” within the space itself, here are just a few:

WWBF will feature a Game Tent sponsored by Grace Care Centers of Katy featuring games such as pinball, arcade video games, shuffleboard and air hockey, all free to our guests!  8th Wonder Brewery will be providing the liquid (over 12 taps) for this unique and climate controlled space.

Thanks to BB&T and the Ballard House in Katy, our VIP tent known as the Hop House will include over 10,000 square feet of climate controlled space.  We will be featuring over 30 taps of rare beer that you will not find anywhere else along with food and a DJ who will be providing great tunes all day long!  This will be a great place to sit and relax with your friends and family while enjoying all the comforts that you would expect from a high end VIP space.

In addition, No Label Brewery and Light it Right will be providing an authentic Beer Garden for our patrons that will rival the ones in Munich.  This unique space will feature a custom tap wall featuring over 15 taps with open air seating. It will be available to all, making it a great gathering spot for everyone in attendance.

The event itself is great for bringing tourism into the city of Katy TX, which happens to be a major sponsor of the event. With beer representing over 17 states at the 2015 event and visitors coming from as far as the Netherlands, the Wild West Brew Fest is quickly becoming a world destination event!

Wild West Brewfest will have excellent entertainment on two stages all day long, and an awesome brewing contest, best dressed volunteer contest, and “best bites” contest in the VIP area.

The Wild West Brewfest is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Katy and what is amazing is that no management fees are taken from the proceeds. The festival is 100% volunteer oriented and 100% of the profits are donated to worthy causes. In 2015 the event brought in an amazing $113,000, which was given to several charities in the local area bringing the total amount given away in the WWBF’s short 4-year existence to over $250,000. We encourage you to check out the Katy Wild West Brew Fest to learn more about not only the great beer and good times you will have, but also the charity aspect of this event, placing it in a league of its own.

What a great advert for how kind people in the brewing industry can be, as there are so many beer festivals supporting or completely fund raising for good causes. It’s great to hear how beer is being used in such a positive way in support of community.

There are some amazing festivals in existence, both non-profit and for profit, but the blood, sweat, tears and beer that Katy Rotary and its supporters contribute is epic. The balance of bringing together amazing beer and good vibes for a good cause is phenomenal, and event chairman David Loesch is forever grateful and proud of what the event has accomplished. “Thanks goes to all of our sponsors, volunteers, team members, the Rotary Club of Katy and our patrons for without them this event would not happen.  Its a great thing when you have a vehicle like beer to provide so much good” said Loesch.

Please check this event out and grab a room at one of the local hotels (which are on property), all while supporting your local breweries and helping others in the process!
